Volunteer
Jordan Classen is a third-year student in the Integrated Chemical & Biomedical Engineering and Health Sciences program at McMaster University, and is double minoring in Biochemistry and The Impact of Infectious Disease on Individuals and Society. Previously, Jordan worked as a Research Assistant in the Hoare Lab for Engineered Smart Materials, focusing on hydrogel chemistry and functionalization for smart wound dressings, before joining the Didar Lab in September 2024. His primary academic and research interests center on pathogenic microorganisms, functional nucleic acids, genome engineering, and drug delivery.
When Jordan isn’t at the lab bench, he actively engages with his community as a student leader both on and off campus. His leadership efforts have earned him recognition as a ’22 TD National Scholar for Community Leadership and a ’24 Cansbridge Scholar. Jordan has held executive roles in various student societies, served as the Chemical Kinetics Lead for McMaster ChemE Car, and volunteers regularly as a Peer Support worker for a local crisis hotline. Most recently, he founded Mac BioDesign, a student organization dedicated to equipping and empowering undergraduates with the necessary skills and knowledge to break into the evolving biotechnology sector and compete in bioengineering technical competitions.
